Building on a Foundation of Joy
2020 Keynote presentation by Sue Miner
Sue Miner, Program Coordinator of George Brown College’s Theatre Program, reflects on how the changes she and her colleagues are making in the wake of the #MeToo movement are helping students to thrive during and after their training. She invites teachers to join her in exploring how the tools of “classical” theatre training can cultivate young artists while challenging the status quo of traditional classical material that may not necessarily reflect our current world. Looking to the future, she asks how we can move forward informed by the past but not be trapped by it, and how we can foster in our students curiosity, resiliency, and (perhaps most importantly) joy.
